Jamison's Story (continued)
Jamison Green & Associates
Education and Policy Consulting on Transgender and Transsexual Issues
James pursued a career in technical writing and had been promoted to publications manager and manager of publications and engineering services at several high technology manufacturing companies and a major financial services company, and he rose to the level of Vice President of Operations at a publicly-held software publishing firm. Dr. Green has also worked as a medical writer and an instructor of legal writing, and both disciplines have contributed to his unique capacity to articulate and address the issues that face transgendered and transsexual people. He has 30 years of work experience, including over 15 years of corporate management experience. For more than 20 years, he has also been a director or advisory board member for many non-profit organizations working to improve health, safety, and civil rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and intersex people. His work with FTM International in the 1990s was instrumental in the establishment of visible transgender communities and advocacy worldwide, and his workplace and healthcare advocacy led directly to the drive to establish trans-inclusive healthcare benefits throughout the U.S, first in the City & County of San Francisco, and later through the Corporate Equality Index, from 2002 forward.
In October, 2003, Jamison married Ms. Heidi A. Bruins (now Ms. Heidi B. Green), a corporate finance training consultant and a long-time political activist committed to ending racism and homophobia. Together they have dedicated themselves to working for social justice and making the world a better place for everyone.
James has been legally male since April, 1991, and his birth certificate was corrected and reissued at that time.
In 2009, Jamison became the first trans person to receive a Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Gay and Lesbian Psychiatrists for his contributions to LGBT mental health. He received the Transgender Advocate Award from the LGBT Bar Association, and the Vanguard Award from the Transgender Law Center also in 2009, and he joined the staff at the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health at the University of California, San Francisco.
